BLACKFISH SEA KAYAKING
Blackfish is the oldest sea kayak company on the North Coast. 2015 is our 16th Year in business.
Blackfish Sea Kayaking is owned and operated by Paul and Gina. Paul, our lead guide has 25+ years of real sea kayaking experience exploring the B.C. Coast including solo paddling incredible locations such as Gwaii Haanas, the Inside Passage to Bella Bella, the Kitlope, Khutzeymateen, 350 kilometres of the Skeena River, and the entire outer west coast of Vancouver Island (mostly by kayak with a few long hikes). Gina, our other lead guide has been paddling with Paul and on her own trips for over 15 years.
Blackfish specializes in small group, multi-day trips into the coastal wilderness of the North Coast and is a model for private/First Nations partnerships in ecotourism. Our company always has prior agreements with the appropriate First Nation(s) and the gross revenue of each trip is shared 50%/50% with permits, native-owned boat charters, and guides. We are proud of our long relationships with coastal First Nations beginning with 5 years in the Haisla First Nation’s Kitlope Valley and continuing for well over a decade with the Coast Tsimshian around Prince Rupert, the Metlakatla First Nation and the Hereditary Chiefs of the Allied Tribes. Our company has a perfect safety record and is always in full compliance with the wishes of the First Nations in all of its years of guiding.
Paul combines an interest in native culture, paddling, first hand historical accounts, and archeology into more evidence for aboriginal title on the North Coast and the Skeena. To help his research he has compiled a unique, personal collection of 250 books relating to Tsimshian culture of which over half are first editions and more than a century old.
Blackfish has been a non-guiding Sea Kayaking Company for the last six seasons. (including this one)
