Blackfish
runs tours and day trips from May to the end of September, the
paddling season on the North Coast. This season we are looking
forward to lots more overnight kayak trips into Metlakatla Passage,
one of our favorite places near Prince Rupert. This two day tour
of the Coast Tsimshian’s abandoned village sites still continues
to amaze even ourselves as we learn more every year about this
First People’s amazing history of 5,000 years of continuous occupation
of the North Coast. Read
more about archeology.
Paul and Gina like to explore new spots each year throughout the
North Coast. Two years ago, we took a group into the Khutzeymateen
Grizzly Bear Sanctuary north of Prince Rupert and paddled back
to Lax Kwa’laams (Port Simpson) through the humpback whale feeding
grounds over 5 days. This year, Paul and Gina’s longer tours include
chartering to an large, uninhabited offshore island group for
5 days and an archeological/wilderness trip through the Passage
(Archeology
and Culture of the Coast Tsimshian First Nation) and then
up the coast to the humpback whale grounds. This trip has stops
at some incredible archeological sites, great beachcombing and
isolation. Check out the “5 Day Expeditions” webpage. Read
more about five day expeditions.
In
May and June, Paul and Gina put on two day introduction to kayaking
courses through both Terrace Parks and Recreation and in Kitimat
through their Recreation Department at Riverlodge in addition
to their regular tours. Read
more about courses.
Both recreation departments also sponsor an overnight kayak/camping
trip to Pike Island (Lax’spaws) with Blackfish in May and June.
